An Ode to the Winter Body

it’s soft and its round
its leaner spring cousin, no where to be found
every winter it happens, no muss and no fuss
i wake up one morning and there’s that cute gut
the time on the treadmill is all for naught
and the kale in the fridge for that juicer I bought
it’s no match for cakes, bread crackers and cheese
are you pouring red? yes another glass please.
it’s here for a reason, that snow on the ground
I don’t feel the season with these extra pounds
winter body is here, and at first I don’t mind
we’ve got long sweaters to cover behind
and elastic waist pants are so fashionable now
one can still look good when one feels like a cow
